Day 3
We left our cosy little airbnb in Twizel and headed in the direction of Queenstown, passing through it, and spent the day exploring Bob’s Cove and Glenorchy.
Bob’s Cove
Bob’s Cove is a ~20 minutes’ drive from Queenstown. They weren’t many other people here, and throughout the 1 hour spent here, we only bumped into about five people. We walked the Bob’s Cove track, up till the jetty and the kilns. It’s a walk through a forest, and along the way, we came across a clearing. The clearing opened up to a section of Lake Wakatipu. The gorgeous scenery presented a photo op, and we wasted no time to seize it before continuing on our walk.

When we arrived at the jetty, we were greeted with clear blue waters you’d expect from a tropical beach! But it was anything but tropical, with the temperature that day being about 10°C.

We didn’t complete the track, though. Because I forgot that the track actually brings you to a high point, giving you a good view of the cove from above. We thought the jetty was the point in a loop track where you had to start to turn back. And there wasn’t any reception so I couldn’t refer to information on the internet. Oh well. But turns out that this oversight actually worked out well for us, because this gave us more time to explore our next destination: Glenorchy.
Glenorchy
We hung around Glenorchy Wharf for a while, taking in the view. The wharf gave us a good view of Lake Wakatipu.

We then started on the Glenorchy Walkway, which took us through various landscapes. Forest, wetlands, fields of snow tussock… I’ll let the photos do the talking here:

Where we stayed
We then drove to our airbnb in Jack’s Point, which is about ~20 minutes’ drive out of Queenstown. Upon reaching this estate, situated in an area with the most amazing view of a mountain range, it was pitch black. There aren’t any streetlights lining the road here. It was an interesting drive, to say the least. Really loved this airbnb too! It was spacious, had a nice toilet, and a walk-in “closet” for storage. It didn’t come with a kitchen, though.
