καλημέρα, Ελλάς! Greece, December 2019 – Part 6

Day 6 – 6 December 2019

Sunrise from the balcony of our airbnb. The illuminated Acropolis can be seen on the right side of the photo.

Our second and last full day in Athens. We had our fill of strapatsada at this gem of a cafe called Telaro. We’ve had strapatsada a few times in Santorini, but the one we had at Telaro was perfect. What’s strapatsada, you ask? It’s a Greek traditional dish made of scrambled eggs, tomatoes and feta, usually served with bread and salad.

Our gamble to visit the Acropolis of Athens on our second day in Athens instead of the first paid off. Skies were clearer than the day before, and made for more cheerful photos!

Situated on a rocky outcrop, the Acropolis is a complex of buildings built in the 5th century BC, and includes the Parthenon and Erechtheion

The Porch of the Caryatids of the Erechtheion (a temple dedicated to Athena and Poseidon)

Exploring the Acropolis and its slopes was a surreal experience, having seen it only in books and watching them on documentaries. As the ruins were in really good condition, it was pretty easy to imagine what it was like during its heyday…

We also visited the Acropolis Museum which showcased many ancient Greek artefacts, and had lunch there.

We then made our way to Filopappou Hill (also known as Hill of the Muses) for sunset. And many others shared our idea:

And that concludes our trip to Greece! Both the scenery, history (and food!) of Greece really mesmerised and left us wanting more!
